Special Events in my life
Bob Mehl has enjoyed a good life and was a successful salesman in the Electronics
Industry for over 30 years until he was diagnosed with Lupus in 1993, which
effectively ended his traveling and career path at that point. Thankfully,
through quick treatment, the Lupus was placed in full remission where it remains
to this day. Shortly after this diagnosis he was additionally diagnosed with
Fibromyalgia (a “kissing cousin” auto-immune condition of Lupus)
…. And he deals with that condition daily. In 1997, having moved back
to Atlanta to be closer to his children, Bob lost his voice (literally) and
after seeing a specialist at Emory University, he was diagnosed with a “high
Vagus nerve” tumor. It was found at the base of his brain, attached
to the Vagus Nerve --- a major nerve trunk descending from the brain. The
tumor had severed the nerve that controlled his left vocal cord and for those
of you who remember Bob’s love of singing
Bob remains, as always, ever optimistic about his life and has earned the
nickname “Bob Hope” amongst his friends in Georgia … because
he never gives up expecting the best life has to offer. He has learned to
expect miracles and the fact that he’s still here with us after all
his medical challenges speaks to his ability to always think positively and
to always react with the future in mind.
He is an active member of his Church, serving as their “Prayer Papa”
– and he participates in a local Food Bank within his community which
feeds over 100 families a week.
Were it not for the fact that his new Website has JUST “opened”,
… Bob would physically be here at the Reunion. Suffice it to say he
IS with us spiritually and he’s right in there with all of you celebrating
#45 in grand style “…God willing and the cricks don’t rise”
… he’ll be in attendance PHYSICALLY at the next one!
