What I’m doing now
Lots of stuff, consulting (4 contracts so far this year), a County Energy
Commissioner, tax preparer, etc. And sort of “retired” in between.
Special Events in my life
Graduated from US Naval Academy in 1962, first ship was a cruiser homeported
in Villefrache, France (between Nice and Monaco), then a destroyer homeported
in Norfolk, then department head” school in Newport RI, followed by
another destroyer in Long Beach CA, and in March 1966 got married at Annapolis,
MD, then to Yokosuka Japan in Summer of 1996 to 1998 (mostly off the coast
of the Vietnams), Naval Postgraduate School (MS in Physical Oceanography)
graduating in 1970, followed by a Cruiser-Destroyer admiral’s staff
in Newport RI until August 1975 when 9 Vietnamese refugees (former RVN naval
officer students) lived with us while assimilating into American life style,
then an Aircraft Carrier admiral’s staff in Alameda Island, CA, followed
by duty as Oceanographer and Team Training Coordinator at ASW Training Center
in San Diego, where was awarded a MS degree in Systems Management from USC
in 1980, then in early 1981 stationed in Naples Italy where principal task
was hunting for submarines in the Mediterranean, and eventually retiring in
San Diego in July 1982. After some consulting, joined Hughes Aircraft Company
in Nov
1982 until retiring in Sept. 1999, after it was bought by Raytheon. As a senior
systems engineer worked on a wide variety of projects varying in size from
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to several Navy new design aircraft carriers,
cruisers, destroyers, frigates, and battle force team training systems, California
Highway Patrol driver training systems, Army “robo-soldier” and
fire support team training programs, Air Force infrared and radar simulation
and target modeling, Coast Guard vessel traffic services for ships in ports
and waterways, Japanese ASW training systems, and many others.
After retiring from Raytheon have primarily been doing consulting for commercial
and defense
organizations involving large system architectures for joint command and control
ships, future Army land warrior and a virtual proving ground. My sons were
born in 1968 and 1971 and are both computer game software developers. My spouse
is Lucy, who I met in Norfolk VA and we were married in 1966, moved 16 times
in 16 years while in the Navy then another half-dozen times since then, and
finally moved to Tubac, AZ in 1998.
